Brazilian network SBT launches with ENPS and SNAPfeed

SBT, Brazil’s second largest national television network, has launched its new national evening newscast 'SBT Brasil' using ENPS, the Associated Press news production system.

Coinciding with the launch of the newscast, SBT constructed a new newsroom and made investments in new technologies that allow its journalists to cover Brazil and the world with greater ease and efficiency. ENPS and SNAPfeed form a key part of this new suite of tools, and their impact is being felt across SBT, linking remote news operations in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia with the national newsroom at SBT’s Sao Paulo headquarters. Additionally, special correspondents in Beirut, London, Paris, New York, and Milan are using SNAPfeed, the intelligent store-and-forward tool that integrates with ENPS, to send video news reports back to Brazil from abroad.

ENPS uses the industry standard Media Object Server (MOS) Protocol to synchronize rundowns with other production devices such as the Leitch NEXIO Servers, the Chyron Duet character generator, and the BDL WinPlus prompter. The high level of coordination between ENPS and production devices allows producers to make changes on-the-fly and is a key reason why hundreds of newsrooms worldwide have made ENPS their newsroom system of choice.

"When the call came from management saying that we needed to build a new newsroom with all new technology and take it on the air in 45 days, one of the easiest decisions to make was in favor of ENPS," said Roberto Franco, Director of Technology for SBT. "I know that equipping our newsrooms around Brazil with ENPS will promote a tightly integrated workflow across the organization and a better product for our viewers."

"ENPS makes possible the kind of synergy that today’s broadcast companies around the world are striving to achieve, without overcomplicating the basic tasks that broadcast journalists know so well," said Lee Perryman, AP’s Deputy Director, Broadcast Services, and Director of Broadcast Technology. "We’re delighted to be a part of SBT’s new newsroom."

Designed by and for broadcast journalists, ENPS is a fit for all types of demanding news production environments, with powerful, easy-to-use features include scripting, rundowns, planning, contacts, messaging, archiving, third-party device control, news wire management, remote access capabilities for field staff, and the industry's only fully-integrated search engine.
