SIENNA is a complete end-to-end digital media infrastructure for news, sports and production featuring a tightly integrated MOS connection to ENPS. Workflow elements including Ingest, asset management, video editing integration, ENPS client integration, automation, playout and archive.

Systems are based on ultra-reliable UNIX-based Apple CPUs and exploit the unique flexibility of the QuickTime media format. SIENNA leverages thoroughly modern technological advances to solve traditional broadcast problems while embracing the fundamental challenges presented by multi-format delivery and multi-site news globalization.

Installed in numerous linked sites all over the world, SIENNA delivers effortless ENPS redirection between continents including automatic standard conversion en route.

Closer to home, SIENNA uses FinalCut Pro for proxy and hi-res editing with tight MOS-based asset management linking ENPS and FinalCut Pro editors in a seamless workflow, exchanging objects, Running Orders, stories and media transparently between workflow steps. Even challenges like native media partial restore and automatic restore on demand are easily handled by the SIENNA servers.

SIENNA's offers outstanding MOS support with sophisticated support for virtually every MOS profile and feature, including the ability to edit ENPS stories from the FinalCut Pro desktop.

Supported ENPS Workflow

Running Order Control

This device allows ENPS to dynamically build and control a playlist within the media server. Changes to the Running Order in ENPS result in immediate changes to the sequence of media objects queued for playout by the media server.

Item Status

This vendor sends real-time status information during playback and other functions which is displayed through ENPS writers and producers in real-time. This includes the use of a minimum set of standard status messages which enable color coding and the automated movement of the ENPS timing bar.

Buddy Fail-Over

This product supports automatic redundant operation with both Primary and Buddy ENPS servers.

Media Thumbnails and Preview Video

This vendor provides thumbnail images and proxy video which are closely integrated within the ENPS Story display and editing windows.

Wide Media Awareness

This builds on Media Awareness to include exposing rushes/newly ingested material in addition to produced/approved material to ENPS users and workflow.

Ingest Placeholder Creation

ENPS users can create and name placeholders within this vendor's server into which media can later be ingested or recorded.  The vendor then updates ENPS with duration and other information as the placeholder is replaced with the actual media.  Placeholders can be used to create "reservations" for material rushes, rough cuts or edits - arriving via ingest applications.

NLE Placeholder Creation

ENPS users can create and name placeholders within this vendor's media server into which edited content from an NLE can be saved.

Automatic Placeholder Creation

ENPS can automatically create and name placeholders within this vendor's server into which finished clips ready for play out can later be edited, saved, or recorded.  The name and other metadata used to automatically create this placeholder is drawn from the related ENPS Story and Running Order. The vendor then updates ENPS with duration and other information as the placeholder is replaced with the actual media.

Channel Assignment

This product enables ENPS users to directly assign media play-out channels from the ENPS Running Order.

Story Send

This product uses the full body of text within ENPS documents, including all media pointers and custom metadata. This product also dynamically tracks the sequence of Stories and Assignments within active ENPS Running Orders and Assignment grids.

Media Awareness

This device sends ENPS a description of the media it stores.  The description contains structured metadata and a pointer to the media object. This information is used by ENPS to return media in search results. Pointers are used to link media to ENPS documents, including Stories, Running Orders and Assignments using simple drag and drop workflow.

MOS Redirection

This product works with ENPS to transfer media between machines and locations using instruction and metadata from ENPS.  When stories containing media are moved from one ENPS location in ENPS to another this vendor offers the option to automatically transfer the media contained in the stories without further user interaction.  This can be used to automatically transfer media between servers and NLE's within a single newsroom, or between multiple newsrooms and production servers in different cities.

Media Search

ENPS is able to send search requests for specific media to this device.  The device responds with a list of all media that satisfies the search, along with pointers for each media object.  ENPS can use the metadata and pointers to display media in search results, or to link media found via this search method with ENPS documents, including Stories, Running Orders and Assignments.

Drag and Drop Media to NLE timeline

This vendor provides an interface within their NLE product that not only allows an NLE operator to select and display live stories within ENPS, but also allows the NLE operator to drag and drop media contained in the ENPS story to the NLE timeline.

Story Write-Back

This vendor provides an interface within their NLE product that not only allows an NLE operator to select and display live stories within ENPS, but also allows the NLE operator to make changes to the ENPS story in the NLE application and have these changes reflected on all ENPS desktops.

Gallery ActiveX Plug-in

This vendor provides an ActiveX plug-in for ENPS which provides the ability to preview media, search for media, create and edit metadata, and perform proxy editing functions from within the ENPS user interface.
