BrainNews is a MOS-compatible On Air Graphics control system, enabling News departments to integrate Brainstorm’s real-time 3D graphics engine into their workflow, without the need for constant input from designers.

Graphics templates can be designed and created in Brainstorm or in industry-standard tools, such as Photoshop, Powerpoint, 3D Studio Max or Maya and then imported into Brainstorm.

Once the templates have been created, journalists or producers with no 3D graphics knowledge can call them up from their own desktop and input or edit data, create still or animated maps and see a preview picture or movie of the animated graphic, before adding it to the playlist.

The editor approves the playlist on the Newsroom system and then, a copy of the playlist is loaded on the Playout Controler.

The operator can then preview the graphics and play them to air. The operator also has the ability to edit graphics, create new ones, and change the running order.

Brainstorm’s templates also provide replacement and transition effects and enable simple graphics to be combined to create more complex ones.

Data can be automatically retrieved and then modified from an external data base as well as from external applications such as the Web. This automates processes and eliminates the risk of data entry errors.

Running Order Control

This device allows ENPS to dynamically build and control a playlist within the media server. Changes to the Running Order in ENPS result in immediate changes to the sequence of media objects queued for playout by the media server.

Item Status

This vendor sends real-time status information during playback and other functions which is displayed through ENPS writers and producers in real-time. This includes the use of a minimum set of standard status messages which enable color coding and the automated movement of the ENPS timing bar.

Media Awareness

This device sends ENPS a description of the media it stores. The description contains structured metadata and a pointer to the media object. This information is used by ENPS to return media in search results. Pointers are used to link media to ENPS documents, including Stories, Running Orders and Assignments using simple drag and drop workflow.

The Brainstorm ActiveX allows users to change/edit the objects associated metadata.
