Digital Broadcast News Bank

www.digitalbcast.com

Digital Broadcast’s NewsBank automated newsroom system automates the ingest, editing and playout functions of television news departments.

NewsBank integrates its automation and server technology with craft editing software and the ENPS newsroom computer system to provide stations with flawless newscasts. NewsBank’s interfaces with network news delivery services, such as CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX, provide direct transfers of files over a network to the NewsBank servers where the files may be edited in their native MPEG-2 format and sent directly to air, never suffering the degradation of converting to and from baseband.

With NewsBank’s seamless bi-directional MOS interface to ENPS, the director selects which Running Order the NewsBank is to follow on ENPS. Once loaded, the NewsBank changes dynamically as the ENPS Running Order changes. The director can insert, delete and float stories on the ENPS computer and the changes reflect immediately on the NewsBank. The NewsBank also supports place holders for last minute additions to the Running Order. As well, NewsBank provides feedback on the status of the Running Order to the ENPS system including what is currently playing, cued and/or missing.

Supported ENPS Workflow

Running Order Control

This device allows ENPS to dynamically build and control a playlist within the media server. Changes to the Running Order in ENPS result in immediate changes to the sequence of media objects queued for playout by the media server.

Item Status

This vendor sends real-time status information during playback and other functions which is displayed through ENPS writers and producers in real-time. This includes the use of a minimum set of standard status messages which enable color coding and the automated movement of the ENPS timing bar.

ActiveX Plug-in Functionality: Search & Find/Click & View/Drag & Drop

ENPS users can discover media stored on this device through the use of simple searches within ENPS. When a media description or link is found in ENPS, a user may simply click on the media to view it. The media can be linked to ENPS Running Orders, Stories and Assignments by simply dragging it into and ENPS document.

Buddy Fail-Over

This product supports automatic redundant operation with both Primary and Buddy ENPS servers.

Ingest Placeholder Creation

ENPS users can create and name placeholders within this vendor's server into which media can later be ingested or recorded.  The vendor then updates ENPS with duration and other information as the placeholder is replaced with the actual media.  Placeholders can be used to create "reservations" for material rushes, rough cuts or edits - arriving via ingest applications.

Channel Assignment

This product enables ENPS users to directly assign media play-out channels from the ENPS Running Order.

Story Send

This product uses the full body of text within ENPS documents, including all media pointers and custom metadata. This product also dynamically tracks the sequence of Stories and Assignments within active ENPS Running Orders and Assignment grids.

Media Awareness

This device sends ENPS a description of the media it stores.  The description contains structured metadata and a pointer to the media object. This information is used by ENPS to return media in search results. Pointers are used to link media to ENPS documents, including Stories, Running Orders and Assignments using simple drag and drop workflow.
