Quantel

www.quantel.co.uk

Quantel’s sQ server-based integrated video production systems provide an efficient workflow for fast delivery of news and sports content for broadcasters around the world. Organizations such as the BBC and ESPN use Quantel technology to provide their journalists, producers and editing personnel with creative desktop tools to capture, edit and deliver media to their audiences.

Quantel provides a choice of on-line editors which allow compelling news stories to be composed using pictures, VOs, interviews and graphics. Journalists are provided with comprehensive desktop editing tools which can view any media in the system, select shots for their stories and even re-purpose existing stories. When a video link is selected the Quantel video viewer (sQ View) or editor (sQ Cut) can be loaded either into the lower pane or in the full screen.

All Quantel editors retain the same user interface and project structure, which makes work sharing and re-versioning quick and simple.

Supported ENPS Workflow

Running Order Control

This device allows ENPS to dynamically build and control a playlist within the media server. Changes to the Running Order in ENPS result in immediate changes to the sequence of media objects queued for playout by the media server.

Item Status

This vendor sends real-time status information during playback and other functions which is displayed through ENPS writers and producers in real-time. This includes the use of a minimum set of standard status messages which enable color coding and the automated movement of the ENPS timing bar.

ActiveX Plug-in Functionality: Search & Find/Click & View/Drag & Drop

ENPS users can discover media stored on this device through the use of simple searches within ENPS. When a media description or link is found in ENPS, a user may simply click on the media to view it. The media can be linked to ENPS Running Orders, Stories and Assignments by simply dragging it into and ENPS document.

Ingest Placeholder Creation

ENPS users can create and name placeholders within this vendor's server into which media can later be ingested or recorded.  The vendor then updates ENPS with duration and other information as the placeholder is replaced with the actual media.  Placeholders can be used to create "reservations" for material rushes, rough cuts or edits - arriving via ingest applications.

NLE Placeholder Creation

ENPS users can create and name placeholders within this vendor's media server into which edited content from an NLE can be saved.

Automatic Placeholder Creation

ENPS can automatically create and name placeholders within this vendor's server into which finished clips ready for play out can later be edited, saved, or recorded.  The name and other metadata used to automatically create this placeholder is drawn from the related ENPS Story and Running Order. The vendor then updates ENPS with duration and other information as the placeholder is replaced with the actual media.

Channel Assignment

This product enables ENPS users to directly assign media play-out channels from the ENPS Running Order.

Media Awareness

This device sends ENPS a description of the media it stores.  The description contains structured metadata and a pointer to the media object. This information is used by ENPS to return media in search results. Pointers are used to link media to ENPS documents, including Stories, Running Orders and Assignments using simple drag and drop workflow.

MOS Redirection

This product works with ENPS to transfer media between machines and locations using instruction and metadata from ENPS.  When stories containing media are moved from one ENPS location in ENPS to another this vendor offers the option to automatically transfer the media contained in the stories without further user interaction.  This can be used to automatically transfer media between servers and NLE's within a single newsroom, or between multiple newsrooms and production servers in different cities.

Quantel ActiveX Plug-in

This vendor provides an ActiveX plug-in for ENPS which provides users with complex desktop editing tools so that they can access any media in the system, select shots for their stories and even re-purpose existing clips, all directly from the ENPS user interface.
