Why not just call it a search?

The way we see it, a search means having to look somewhere for something. With the ENPS Briefing, just plug in your search terms and the work is done for you. It doesn't matter what it is, or where it was last placed. The search is returned in seconds, saving valuable time.

  • Briefing can easily search other groups in your organization or the newsrooms of sister stations using ENPS.
  • Briefings can also be saved privately or for a group, and easily recalled with a single keystroke.
  • Briefing parameters can be customized for individual users.

What makes ENPS briefing so fast?

The answer is indexed searching. It's an advanced way to store information inside of ENPS. Any type of news object can be indexed – a script, a rundown, an assignment, even a video clip, in a way that's invisible to the user.

The new expanded briefing capability in ENPS 4.5 allows you, with just a single search, to gather results not only from ENPS systems across your organization, but from the Internet and other non-ENPS databases.

ENPS briefing uses advanced search logic

  • Advanced Searching: By typing “run” you will also see results such as “running,” “runs,” and “ran.”
  • Boolean Logic: By using AND, OR, NOT and NEAR to specify additional search information.
  • Wildcard searching: With the asterisk (*) symbol. A Briefing on surr* would return items that include the words “surreptitiously,” “surreal,” “surrender,” “surround,” etc.
  • Forward Searches: You can even set ENPS to notify you when a news wire arrives that meet certain criteria. Just open the Forward Search Alerts window, and enter your search terms, for example “ Mount Everest ” and “mountain climber.” ENPS will display an alert as soon as a news wire arrives that contains any of those words.
  • Thesaurus Expansion: By typing “vehicle” you'll also see results like “automobile,” “bus,” “truck,” “machine,” and “transportation.”
